If there is one positive outcome from this mortgage business is that we ARE forced to pay closer attention to where money is going.

I'd say there is a huge difference between telling a megacorporation that buying a 50 million dollar plane they probably don't need anyway and telling Mr or Ms small business owner they can't buy 200 pencils and still receive funding. Even if the scale seems comparable.

I agree there's plenty of waste but I really don't think the current business environment would allow the government to micro-manage small business expenditures.

The only reason any government official stepped in was because we are all watching. They do not care about waste since they waste every penny they can get their hands on. If they would treat all this money and other money that they get from us taxpayers as if were their own and it could run out, then they would think twice before they spent on BS projects that were not needed(there are many). It does not take a rocket scientist to see that we as citizens are hurting and as a nation we are in trouble yet the Government spends and spends like there is no end in sight on things like the light rail that gets very little ridership and yet the cities continue to try to find ways of spending more so that another city does not get the funds. I have heard teachers and principals in schools say that they have to order what they have budgeted so that they will get the same or more funds next year. The reason should be because they need the materials and not so they do not loose the funds... just my rant and take on the Govco spending as a whole...
